Two weeks ago, the second school term got underway at Sunny Magezi Academy, the newest addition to the Aliguma Foundation Sports and Empowerment Centre (AFSEC) in Kinuuma Village, Masindi District.

Barely seven months after opening its doors in November last year, the school is already beginning to outgrow the label of "new."
The classrooms are fuller, the boarding section is livelier, and every new face arriving through the gate is another vote of confidence from parents and guardians who believe they have found a place where their children can learn, grow and feel at home.
For the staff, the holiday was not simply a break between terms. It became an opportunity to sharpen their skills through intensive professional development, ensuring that when the learners returned, they found a school even better prepared to meet their needs.
That has always been the ambition behind Sunny Magezi Academy.
Not simply to open another school in rural Uganda, but to build a community where, true to its motto, every child shines.

Growing Stronger
The reopening for the second term comes after a landmark first school term that saw Sunny Magezi Academy evolve from an ambitious idea into a vibrant learning community.
What started with just 30 pioneer learners continues to attract more families from Masindi District and beyond, with parents increasingly placing their trust in the school's promise of quality, inclusive and holistic education.

But while the classrooms may have fallen silent during the holidays, learning never stopped.
Teachers and non-teaching staff remained on campus, undertaking an intensive professional development programme focused on inclusivity, special needs awareness and practical curriculum delivery.
For School Principal Shirley Akeso, preparing the staff was every bit as important as preparing the classrooms.
"As our school continues to grow, we must ensure that our people grow alongside it," Akeso said.
"We want every learner who walks through our gates to feel seen, understood and supported. Inclusion is not a special programme that we switch on and off. It is something that should be reflected in our classrooms and in every interaction we have with children and their families."

The three-day training equipped staff with practical skills to support children with different learning needs while strengthening the culture of empathy and belonging that defines the academy.
No Ordinary School
At Sunny Magezi Academy, education extends far beyond books and examinations.
Children are encouraged to learn through play, creativity, music, sports and friendship.
As the new term got underway, the school grounds once again came alive with smiling faces, colourful classroom activities and shared moments between teachers and learners.
The boarding section, thoughtfully prepared during the holiday break, welcomed back its young residents with clean, well-kept dormitories designed to offer comfort, security and a sense of home.

Carefully decorated sleeping spaces and nurturing surroundings ensure that even away from their families, children can dream big and rest peacefully.
Healthy meals continue to form an important part of the school experience, reinforcing the academy's belief that a child learns best when they are safe, happy and well cared for.
Community Building Together
The growth of Sunny Magezi Academy is not the work of one organisation alone.
Aliguma Foundation extends heartfelt gratitude to UEFA Foundation for Children, whose continued partnership under the Sports for Resilience and Empowerment Project (SREP) has helped transform a vision into reality.

prepared spaces like the well-kempt dormitory ensure every learner feels secure, valued and at home.
The Foundation also pays special tribute to the parents, guardians and people of Kinuuma, Masindi District and the wider community whose belief in the school has fuelled its steady growth.
Every child enrolled represents a family's dream. Every learner entrusted to the academy strengthens a shared belief that quality education can change lives.
"Our promise to parents is simple," chipped in Ritah Aliguma, the School Proprietor and Founder of Aliguma Foundation.
"We will continue working every day to ensure that they receive real value for the trust they place in us. We are not only teaching children to pass examinations. We are helping them become responsible citizens, confident young people and future African leaders."

Journey Continues
As the second term gathers momentum, Sunny Magezi Academy remains open for new enrolments.
From Baby Class through Primary Three, with Primary Four coming soon, the academy continues to offer an environment where learning, safety and character development go hand in hand.
The classrooms are ready. The teachers are prepared. The smiles are waiting.
And in Kinuuma Village, a young school continues to prove that when a community comes together around its children, extraordinary things can happen.
Because at Sunny Magezi Academy, every child is given the opportunity to shine.
